Jon Zmikly received his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast & Cinematic Arts from Central Michigan University in 2006. After working at a few local television and radio stations, Jon was excited to see firsthand the transformative impact of the internet and digital technology upon traditional media. When he began graduate school at Texas State in 2007, he studied the impact of social media on the news industry, created multimedia storytelling websites and attended SXSW Interactive with a team of grad students.
Since 2009, Jon has been teaching in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, teaching classes like the Fundamentals of Digital and Online Media, Web Design and Publishing, Media Design and Writing for the Mass Media. He loves experimenting with digital tools and is constantly searching for new ways to engage students in the classroom using social media. Jon is the webmaster and social media manager for several entities, including The School of Journalism and Mass Communication, San Marcos Community Church, The Southwest Education Council for Journalism and Mass Communication and many others. He has given workshops and presentations on using digital tools and social media for teaching and serves by live streaming, planning helping with social media strategy for Mass Communication Week. He also co-founded coiski, a digital media agency located in Austin, TX. You can find more information on Jon at jonzmikly.com.
