Final Project Ideas

For my final project I would like to work for a client who needs a website for her small at home cake business.  I have envisioned an interactive and fun website that would be very eye catching. As far as content goes I can see myself building a home page, a gallery with her previous cakes (slide show format), a contact page, an about us page, I would like to offer a videos page where she shows us how to do some technical stuff in 60 minute videos and like that to the classes that she offers. If I can’t get videos of her doing that then i would like to add a reviews page where people can write there reviews as well as link some reviews she has had before. I  have a vision of a very simple and clean website that just scrolls from page to page kind of like the one you built for the wedding. That makes the content flow when there isn’t too much content.

Hobbies Website

One hobby of mine that I would like to make a website out is my taste for beer and alcohol. One of my favorite thing are signature cocktails and beers. Living in San Marcos and in the Austin area for a few years now I really have felt the need for something like this. One website that features so many bars that its like a one stop shop. I’ve curated 5 pages for this sit

1) Home

2) Liquors- This will focus on cocktails and drinks. The good ones and then some of the best prices in the area.

3) Beers-This will be mainly local beers and the best beer gardens and bars in town that offer good prices, good beer and good atmosphere.

4) Hot Spots- For the last page I want to create a sort of gallery in where people can click the bar they want to go to and there is a profile on each one. That way they know what they are getting into.

5) Submissions- I would really like to include a submissions page because this is a fun way to keep people interactive and helps with web content and producing more. This submission page is just another way for contact page.

One website that does a good job of this style is drinkspirits.com, where they review the drinks. I want to have a clean and aesthetically pleasing site that takes on the organization of Drink Spirits but the effectiveness of Yelp.

Website

One website that I have open up every single time that I open up my web browser is Mashable.com. Not only is is a great way to get news but it is set up for that purpose. I like seeing that as one of the first pages when I open up my web browser because it is aesthetically pleasing. The colors are blue and white which keep a neutrality that allows the content such as headlines and pictures to stand out. The navigation is also a big thing for me: I can scroll down and click on categories of news very easily without sinking myself too deep into irrelevant stories. On the main screen it has major stories and along the side it has stories that might not be big stories but are still relevant and somehow they manage to make it look clean. That one thing they do correct is keeping things very organized. The top navagation is one of my favorites also because it lets you filter out what you like. I think they could work on some placement of stories versus ads but besides that I do not have much to improve.  I love Mashable.
