Final Website Idea

After much thought, I’ve decided that my final website will discuss the industrialization of Austin and how it is recreating what makes Austin one of a kind. At one time, Austin was simply known for its barbeque, its music, and above all its weirdness. Now, you’re lucky if you can enjoy any of these things for a reasonable price.

Given the latest and most recent developments over the years Austin has had quite the transformation. From new hotels to up and coming businesses downtown Austin is hardly recognizable. Yet, there are still many other areas that aren’t quite as developed but still bringing in a lot of outside traffic. Take the Formula One track for instance, since its addition Austin has become quite the tourist destination. However for local austinites it brings higher rent payments and increased industrialization to the area. With all the fluctuations in prices it begs the question : Is Austin the next Rodeo Drive?

The Next Big Thing

According to IBM, self-driving cars should be fully functional by the year 2025 and after this years CES tradeshow we just got a little closer to this reality. This past January Mercedes Benz revealed an F015 Electric Hybrid car . Not only can the car identify when it is ok for you to cross the street but it also lets cars around you know where it intends to park. Through the use of digital images a lighted sidewalk appears as well as a neon arrow icon locating the car’s parking spot.  Once mobilized the car can raise or lower the volume based on your hand movements and gestures as well as perform a variety of other tasks as well.

While it certainly does spark one’s curiosity it does raise a lot of questions. Through the use of advanced technology and design how much will the car be sold for? Will it require a larger charging time since it is a hybrid ? How foolproof is it? Will it be prone to hacking? Does it take into consideration different weather conditions? The list goes on and on but until each consumer is able to actually drive or in this case experience the car themselves one can’t help but remain skeptical.

My Favorite Website

After browsing for a couple of minutes over the web I came to find that I really enjoyed the way the Kohl’s layout was setup. Not only did Kohl’s have a clean, and consistent layout throughout the site but I wasn’t consistently  being bombarded with pop up ads coming up on the page or distracted by third party displays on the left or right.  While Kohl’s did have ads for some of its brands such as Jockey I liked that they were both at the top and near the bottom of the page which made it easier to actually focus on what type of item I was looking for and filter out whatever I didn’t want according to the toolbar on the left. Overall, I thought the site was well constructed and followed all 1o principles of what an effective website should look like. The only improvement I could see that Kohl’s should make would be to not have so much going on at the top of the page.

Take a look for yourself and click on the name below to access their page:
