Nice Kicks

I typically check Nice Kicks once a day. Nice Kicks is a site devoted to sneaker culture. The site is easy to navigate through does a great job of recognizing who their target audience is. I enjoy looking at the site mostly because of the content. Not only does Nice Kicks showcase shoe related articles, but they even have their own writers who post original work. The overall design isn’t my favorite in terms of a website layout but I do enjoy the articles and being apart of the community that views the site. I think the website’s design could be improved by using a layout similar to news sites or even ESPN. Basically highlight more interesting topics and have your own writers produce more content. That way you can reach a mass audience, but also have the writers who can focus on particular subjects within the sneaker community. Not only that, but try and involve your audience more whether it be with daily poles or informing them of sneaker deals.

DeerHunter.com

After my time in the military, I struggled to acclimate myself back into society. I was lost and didn’t know what to do. I had forgotten what I liked to do for fun. What did I enjoy? What were my hobbies? It was difficult to find that one activity that really stood out above some of the things that I tried to do. I was eventually presented with the opportunity to go hunting. I had never been before, so I didn’t know what to expect. We didn’t harvest or actually even see anything my first time out, but the rush that it gave me was awesome.

Since then I have fallen in love with the sport of Whitetail Deer Hunting, and have looked forward to every season that has come over the past 4 years. I didn’t grow up hunting, so I was way behind on the learning curve. I began researching different types of hunting, attractants, feeds, patterns, tracks, and much more.

I eventually found http://www.deerhunter.com/

This is my favorite website to visit because of its content, photos, and videos. There are many links to additional websites and resources. It is very easy to navigate, and I think it was designed with the people that aren’t the best with computers in mind. The quality of the content is amazing and very detailed with pictures throughout. I enjoy visiting this site because of the content. It has taught me a lot and has helped me catch up with the things that I desperately needed to learn.

My only criticism is that the site has so much content and it could be overwhelming.  That is why I am so appreciative of the user-friendly design.

This website really helped me in my pursuit and passion for the outdoors, and it has taught me how to be a responsible and respectful hunter.

ESPN.GO

Really the only website that I ever visit, other than social media, is ESPN. It is the easiest way to keep up with what is going on in the world of sports even though a lot of things that are posted on the site are biased. Still, it is just a website for games and sports so for me it is just fun and entertainment.

ESPN website

The title page of the ESPN website

When first visiting the website, everything that is ‘above the digital fold’ so to speak is very neat and sleek looking as I would expect from a sports page. It is also very organized and detailed as Americans love their stat lines and numbers on everything sports. To Americans, sports is a science and ESPN does a good job of making this science seem cool. Upon scrolling down the cool, red background fades into a white and stays white the entire way down the page. Actually, it is like this on every page of the website. This to me seems almost lazy. I think I would enjoy something more edgy and eye catching to continue down the length of the page instead of just being a top of the page attention-grabber.

ESPN

The bottom of the page of the ESPN website is white

I do like how organized all the links are and clearly defined, so navigation throughout the site is relatively easy. However, on the main page there is usually a scrolling list of video thumbnails which I would consider the “main headlines” of the site and when I click on these videos it takes me to a different page. Most of the time the video that I click on is not the story that will be playing. It is some other story from “college football” or whatever it was that I tried to watch and this seems very odd to me from a news source.

All in all though the thing that always drives me back to the site is content. I don’t care too much about it being super flashy or anything like that. I care that the site is easy to navigate so I can find out about the sports that I am looking for. On the whole the content and sports entertainment coverage of the site is unparalleled anywhere else on the web.

Facebook

I like to visit Facebook a lot because I am originally from Illinois and the set up of Facebook’s posts make it easy for me to view pictures and status’s from friends and family that are miles away. It also has an easy messenger or chat option that make communication quite easy. I believe that Facebook could improve the way they chronologically order the posts that show up on the news feed. Sometimes while I am scrolling I notice a post from yesterday is in the midst of posts that were just recently uploaded. Facebook is very user friendly and all generations (like my grandma) can navigate and use it. I believe that some of the content on Facebook is garbage or useless, but for me I enjoy seeing what my family and friends back home are up to in their lives and accomplishments they are making. Also Facebook has Trending topics which are usually news related either of Sports or Actors.

Apartment Therapy

AT

I have a weakness for d.i.y. home projects!  I love making new things and Apartment Therapy has something for everyone. I could spend hours on this site and sometimes I do! It’s such a dreamy resource for browsing simple weekend projects or finding help for tackling difficult projects like a kitchen makeover (#someday). I like this website for it’s content and design. The photography is beautiful and the layout is clean and organized. I can’t help but feel inspired to create when I come to this corner of the web. One of my favorite parts about the website is the way the categories and labels are outlined. I like that there are labels for specific decor styles, specific rooms in your home, even a tab for small spaces! They just added a “color search” tool that allows the reader to  search content based on color (up to five). How cool is that? This is a website that I feel I will never outgrow and can always refer to especially as I get more in tune with my own style. I started using this website about three years ago when I first got married. I was in a nesting phase (still am, that never goes away)! I am always inspired by the content and it’s a great site to learn simple tricks for home and how to use the space you have. I have also learned about home maintenance and have gained some insight on what it takes to be a home owner. And last, my most favorite thing is browsing the home tours section to see how others dwell and to see what inspires them and their home.  Anyway, enough rambling about Apartment Therapy… Go check it out for yourself! 🙂

Here are a few of my favorite house tours… this one and this two and this three
