Organization Website

For our next assignment I would like to create a website for my church, Family Worship Center. The church has never had a website and they don’t have an online presence. So, I would like to run their social media and create a website for the church.

The five pages would be:

  1. Home page
  2. Children’s ministry page
  3. Missions page
  4. Calendar/upcoming events page
  5. Contact page

I’ve looked at different church websites and I really like Long Hollow‘s website. It’s very easy to navigate and it’s not confusing. I would like my site to look similar. A majority of the people in the church are older in age, so I want something that will be easy for them to navigate if they choose.

Hobby Website

For my next website, I would like to talk about a few different hobbies that I have picked up. Each page will consist of a different hobby that I either enjoy or previously enjoyed.

1st page: Welcome/home page talking about what my hobbies are.

2nd page: Music. How music has become a big part of my life and the shows I’ve attended.

3rd page: Dance. It will talk about how much I love dance and what all I have accomplished while do so.

4th page: Working out. This page will consist workout routines and my eating habits.

5th page: Hiking. For this page, I want to talk about the different places that I like to hike and why.

I really want this website to possibly have a picture of the background with the transparent squares over it to where you can still see the picture behind the text, but also be able to read the text. If that doesn’t work, I would like for the header to have some sort of video of playing every time someone opens my site. In my campaigns class, our client is HomeAway and their website is where I got the idea to do a picture or video as the whole screen.

Hobby Website

For this next project I want to make a website about fitness. Now I am no expert by any means, but I do enjoy working out and doing all sorts of physical activity. So for this website I will have 5 pages all related to working out in one way or another.

Page 1: Intro and home page that briefly describes each page.

Page 2: About page where I talk about how I started working out and just my fitness story.

Page 3: My lifting page where I will post many of the workouts that I use myself.

Page 4: My cardio page where I will post some cardio exercises that I like.

Page 5: Supplements and diet page where I discuss how diet is a huge component to getting bigger/smaller.

Although I really don’t know of any site that is similar to this, darebee seems to be the closest. I have not personally used the site before but it seems very user friendly along with quality content. I think this project will come together nicely!

My new website

For my new website, I would enjoy taking a different take on my favorite two hobbies, guitar and drumming. I have shared some of my love for guitar on my first website but would like to introduce the addition of drumming. I would like to have some reviews and maybe a few articles of that some instruments sound and look like. The pages would be something like a

  1. home page with an introduction to the drums and guitars
  2. guitar reviews- have video of different guitars and what they sound like.
  3. drum review- have a few videos of some drum sets
  4. amp comparisons- have a review on different amps perhaps playing the same riff but on different amps
  5.  gallery- pictures of various guitars and drums

These page ideas may change but I would like to have a navigation like DiMarzio’s pick up website. I really want to incorporate video and audio as it goes hand in hand with music.

Hobby Website

For my new website, I would like to venture into baking. Baking is always a fun pastime for me and this would allow me or push me to try new recipes and become better. I am thinking that every so often I would try a new recipe and post it onto the website.

My five pages I think would be something like the following:

  1. Home Page
  2. Favorites: This page would consist of two or three recipes that my friends or family members like the most.
  3. Fails: This page would consist of two or three recipes that either turned out horrible or were the least favorites.
  4. Cheesecakes
  5. Cakes/Others

Each page would obviously have a picture with the recipe, but they would also have a couple sentences with my thoughts or experience with making it. The cooking website that I like and plan on following a little would be http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/.

Organization Website

For our next assignment I would like to make a website on an organization I am involved in called Saint Paul’s Outreach. They currently already have a website, but I would like to focus more on the Texas Chapter.

The five pages would consist of a Home page talking about a general overview of what the organization is.

The next will be a Mission page talking about what the goal and ideals of the organization are.

Next a page for the Texas chapter to show more about the organization and some of the things Texas has and does that.

Next there will be a page dedicated to Events. Showing all of the different events we have had, and that we do have. There could be a calendar of sorts that shows this.

Finally a contact page. Where to find people involved and how to get involved.

I would like the site to be fairly simple. We have have a great photographer, so I think the pictures will be colorful enough and make the page pop. There are two sites I would like my website to look like. This is the first and this is the second. It may be a bit ambitious, but I think I could make something like this work, or at least I would like to try.

Website

One website that I have open up every single time that I open up my web browser is Mashable.com. Not only is is a great way to get news but it is set up for that purpose. I like seeing that as one of the first pages when I open up my web browser because it is aesthetically pleasing. The colors are blue and white which keep a neutrality that allows the content such as headlines and pictures to stand out. The navigation is also a big thing for me: I can scroll down and click on categories of news very easily without sinking myself too deep into irrelevant stories. On the main screen it has major stories and along the side it has stories that might not be big stories but are still relevant and somehow they manage to make it look clean. That one thing they do correct is keeping things very organized. The top navagation is one of my favorites also because it lets you filter out what you like. I think they could work on some placement of stories versus ads but besides that I do not have much to improve.  I love Mashable.

Favorite Website

My favorite website is sephora.com. I like this website mainly for the content but when I looked a little closer at the website I really started to appreciate the layout. It is so easy to use and convenient. I think it follows the “10 Principles Of Effective Web Design” really well. The first of the 10 principles is “don’t make users think” meaning that you should be able to just look at the website and know whats going on and where you want to go next. The Sephora website does a great job of this because the tabs are easily visible and the website is very visual. The simple layout of pictures and a white background lend attention to principle 3: “manage to focus users attention” meaning the website gets right to the point by showing the user the product right off the bat. The website also does principle 4 very well: “strive for feature exposure” by showing right on the home page an “editors picks” section. This helps the shopper see products they might have missed otherwise. Principle 6 is also done well: “strive for simplicity” by just showing the shopper exactly what they are looking for and giving them the option to add the product to the “shopping cart” just by hovering over the image. Principle 7: “don’t be afraid of the white space” is a big theme with the Sephora website. This is nice because the website background does not draw attention away from the products being showcased. Overall I love this website because of it’s simplicity!

Favorite Website!

My favorite website is Spotify! Being a music lover I always love to try out new music sites and Spotify has been one that I’ve consistently used since it started. Spotify allows you to search your friends music, artists music, and even make your ow playlists. I LOVE it. The reason I liked the Spotify website so much is because of how much it has evolved. Now with Spotify the navigation is more simple than ever but it also gives you a ton of options. They have playlists for working out, hanging out with your friends, or even ones when you’re trying to study, but they don’t over clutter their homepage with this information. Spotify has also recently started the Discover Weekly page which takes your music taste and makes you your very own playlist. I think they have done a good job with not only the easy to use navigation but the content that is on the page which all together makes the perfect website 🙂
